The Hateful Eight

I just wanted to pop in to recommend a movie I watched last night. I got it from Redbox. It's Quentin Tarantino's eighth film, The Hateful Eight.

I was interested to hear the award-winning soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, but I was worried that the film itself was going to make me fidget in my seat with anxiety like Inglourious Basterds did. So I prepared to just sit with my laptop and only half-watch it just in case it made me too uncomfortable.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised! Don't get me wrong - there are some uncomfortable moments, true to Tarantino form, and the way he likes to build the tension. But there was something that was really fun and theatre-like about it. I felt like I was watching a play.

Clocking in at almost 3 hours, it is a movie you might have to watch in installments. We watched half before we went out to dinner and finished it when we got back. That worked out really well.

Also, there is some violence (duh - look at the director), but it's the sort of outrageous, over-the-top type violence that I can handle. It also sort of reminded me of Reservoir Dogs. So if you liked that one, you'll probably also like this one.

Overall, I'm glad I gave it a chance! Here's a bit of that award-winning soundtrack I was telling you about:

And here's a clip from the beginning of the film to whet your appetite :)

If you watch it, let me know what you think!
